Hand Gestures

No hand gesture is universal. Each culture has its own gestures and meanings and I think that is fascinating. The idea for this project came about while listening to my friends discuss the subtleties of translating sign language and how one sign can more accurately convey the speaker’s meaning than another. So much is often lost in translation, but so much can be conveyed (and misunderstood) through only gesture. This is the paradox I explore in this series. There are more in progress!

The work up at Cafe Colonial.
